Inductive loop Detectors/Vehicle detection system.

图片
Inductive loop Detectors/Vehicle detection system. What is that? An inductive loop is an electromagnetic communication or detection system which uses a moving magnet to induce an electrical current in a nearby wire. Induction loops are used for transmissions and receptions, detections of metal objects in metal detectors or vehicle presence indicators. Vehicle detection loops, can detect vehicles passing or arriving at a certain point, for instance : 1.approaching the gate(this will help activate gate motor without use of a Remote). 2.Approaching a traffic light. (Automatically activates the robot). An insulated, electrically conducting loop is installed in the pavement/drive way. The electronics unit transmits energy into the wire loops at frequencies between 10 kHz to 200 kHz, depending on the model. The inductive-loop system behaves as a tuned electrical circuit in which the loop wire and lead-in cable are the inductive elements. When a vehicle passes over the loop or is s...

The Evolution of Loop Technology

图片
Inductive Loop Detector technology has been in use for the detection of vehicles since the early 1960’s. The first loop detector designs were based on solid-state analog technology using discrete components including transistors, diodes, etc. These designs were very similar in many respects and provided detection of vehicles occupying the zone defined by the perimeter of the loop. The loop areas varied from small loops (e.g. six ft. by six ft.) to very large loops (e.g. six ft. by 100 ft.). The loop sizes varied depending on the requirements of the control system. Smaller loops were typically used with “volume density controllers” where vehicle count information was needed to vary the timing of traffic signals. Large loops were typically used with “LOC” controllers (loop occupancy control) where the traffic signals responded on demand to the detection of vehicles in the prescribed detection zone. These controllers offered improved efficiency in moving traffic on streets and highways as...

Applikation loop detectors LOOP Vehicles and metal objects can be safely identifi ed by a loop embedded in to the driveway, consisting of several coils of copper wire and an inductive loop analyzer of the LOOP-series. Modern technology involving a powerful microprocessor enable a loop analysis over a large induction-area of 20-2000uH. The LOOP-series has 1- and 2-channel variations with several possible settings for: changes in the loop frequency boost-function suppression of sensitivity) detection of direction impulse/continuous contact output functions limiting dwell time response delay drop-out delay The flash code of the LED-indicators shows the actual loop frequency and any error diagnosis. Loop installation The individual cores should not shift against each other. The loop geometry must not be allowed to change. If possible, the installation should be kept away from any metal objects. Safety Loop Installation

图片
Safety Loops are a term used to describe a vehicle detection system that uses one of more "loops" of wire buried underground, in combination with a "Loop Detector", to sense the presence of a vehicle. It does this by generating a "field" around the buried wires. When a metal mass comes into close proximity of this field, it changes the electrical characteristics of the field and this causes a frequency shift in the current flowing through the loop. The attached detector senses this change, and triggers a relay output which tells a gate operator that there is a vehicle in the loop. On a standard slide gate or lift type gate, the safety loop installation will consist of two loops, one on either side of the gate. The minimum distance for the loop to the gate itself is  three feet , and the maximum is  five feet . If the loops are too close to the gate, the metal of the gate itself can be detected as the gate is moving and cause a false signal. If the loops a...

Loop detectors are used to detect the presence of vehicles

图片
Loop detectors are used to detect the presence of vehicles. Typically the loop is connected to a loop detector. Some gate operators have built in sockets to accept loop detectors and some models require the detector to be wired in. Loop Detector Exit loops are used to open gates to allow a vehicle's exit. Safety loops are used to prevent a gate from closing on a vehicle. Two loops can be wired to one detector. This is frequently the case in safety loops. Loops are placed in front and behind the gate. Shadow Loops are typically used in commercial locations. A Shadow Loop keeps the gate open while a vehicle is above it, just like a safety loop, but only functions when the gate is in the full open position. Preformed Loops are placed below the surface prior to laying asphalt or pouring concrete. They are available in several sizes depending on driveway width. Car Loop Detectors  are used to detect the presence of a vehicle to open a gate, or as a safety device to prevent the gate...

Triggering Traffic Signals

图片
Triggering Traffic Signals Introduction Many traffic signals in the United States are triggered by various types of sensors in the ground. There are varying designs and types of these sensors, but almost universally they have difficulty sensing anything smaller than a car. Scooterists, bicyclists and motorcyclists often find themselves waiting through several cycles of a light without getting a green. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help trigger the lights. And, in some states, it's even legal to run them in some circumstances. How Triggers Work Sensors that detect vehicles in order to maximize the efficiency of traffic lights are called "demand-actuated" triggers. These take a number of forms including lasers, video cameras and various rollover sensors in the street. The most common ones are inductive loop sensors. Without getting into too much of the science behind this, inductive loops are essentially metal coils (wrapped around a metal core) ...

Traffic Detector Handbook

As with traffic signal controllers, loop detector electronics units were developed and marketed by numerous manufacturers, each using a different type of harness connector and detection technique. To overcome subsequent interchangeability problems, JUTAI developed a set of standards known as "Section 7. Inductive-Loop Detectors." These were released early in 1981. This section of the JUTAI Standards defined functional standards, physical standards, environmental requirements, and interface requirements for several inductive-loop electronics unit configurations. Section 7 described only the basic functions associated with inductive-loop detector electronics units. Users identified the need for additional functions for specific locations, particularly delay and extension timing. To cover this gap, JUTAI developed and in 1983 released "Section 11. Inductive-Loop Detectors with Delay and Extension Timing." This section was basically identical to Section 7 with the ad...

Bicycle Loop Detectors

图片
JUTAI heard that some people don’t know that the Seattle Department of Transportation added bicycle loop detector markings at many intersections. These markings indicate where cyclists should stop in order to https://www.aliexpress.com/store/2174031  The marks can be seen as one pulls up to a red light, so as long as there are no motor vehicles in front of you. The marker will generally be located behind the white stop line and generally slightly to the right, positioned over the vehicle sensor that’s embedded in the pavement. There are two forms we see most regularly; the https://www.aliexpress.com/store/2174031 or the newer small “bicyclist” marking, seen here. Simply make sure your front tire, at least, is centered over this white marker and you should be added to the signal rotation. Some intersections don’t have this marker, or they may be faded away. If you think a specific intersection should have a marker but doesn’t you can contact  sa...

Loops and Twisted Lead-Ins

图片
Loops and Twisted Lead-Ins There is nothing confusing about an inductance loop, it’s just some copper in the ground. There are not any circuit boards, fuses, relays, or other complex pieces. But there is still a lot of confusion about how a loop works and how they should be designed. Each year advances are made in the industry, but only a handful of installers adopt them into their techniques. This often results in the same speculations/myths those instructors had, which were passed down from installer to installer thus creating the confusion we have today. By reading the rest of this training update you will have a clearer understanding of the myth surrounding twisted loop lead-in wire and “magnetic” loop detection.  The belief that loop lead-in wire heading back to the operator for gate installations must be twisted to prevent false detections or cross-talk is incorrect. The confusion comes from loops being used with traffic signals following the IMSA spec No. 50-2-84 lead-i...

Loop Detector DEFLECTOMETERTM: The front panel 7-segment LED DEFLECTOMETERTM provides visual feedback and assistance for setting the correct sensitivity, reading the frequency of the loop, reporting Loop Faults, and indicating Delay & Extension Timing functions. Sensitivity Meter: With a typical size vehicle over the roadway loop, the DEFLECTOMETERTM functions as a Sensitivity Meter. The optimum sensitivity setting should provide a reading of “5”. You can adjust the DEFLECTOMETERTM reading by using the front panel UP or DOWN sensitivity buttons. Automatic quantitative feedback of the loop system operation ensures that the detector is set to the most optimum sensitivity level to detect ALL vehicles, including motorcycles and high-bed vehicles. Frequency Meter: Following power-up or reset, the DEFLECTOMETERTM will indicate a 2 or 3 digit number (quickly flashes) that indicates the loop frequency of the loop & loop network. Keeping your loops separated by at least 5 KHz av...
